Vintani Afonso Nafassi is a prominent figure in the African music scene, whose life and career are defined by an unwavering passion for preserving and promoting traditional Mozambican and African music. As a dancer, percussionist, singer, composer, and choreographer, he has dedicated his life to enriching the cultural heritage of his country and continent.

Recently graduated with a Master’s degree in African Music and Performance from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, Vintani brings with him a strong academic background and a deep understanding of African musical traditions. His work as a musician, vocalist, and choreographer is complemented by his role at the National Song and Dance Company of Mozambique, where he remains an inspiring figure for emerging artists.

Vintani’s mission is to explore, preserve, and promote traditional Mozambican and African music. He has been an influential artistic mentor in programs such as EthnoCamp, organized by Music Crossroads (2023), and the Norwegian FK program coordinated by Fredrikstad Kulturskolen (2009–2011). He has performed at numerous festivals and cultural events worldwide, including Festival Raiz, LUJU Festival in Eswatini, HIFA Festival in Zimbabwe, and Rio de Janeiro Carnival (2018). Additionally, his work as a teacher and instructor of African music in universities and educational programs in South Africa and abroad has played a vital role in sharing his knowledge and passion for traditional music.

Vintani’s legacy transcends the borders of Mozambique and South Africa, reaching countries such as Zimbabwe, Eswatini, Brazil, China, Norway, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, and more. His dedication to promoting culture and artistic education in underprivileged communities stands as a testament to his commitment to empowerment and social transformation through music.
